Teen Court
The City of Rogers has successfully implemented a "Teen
Court", which is a system of justice completely operated by
teenagers for teen-agers who have committed non-violent
crimes. The Court consists of teen-agers, grades 8 through
12, serving in the capacity of Prosecutor; Defense counsel;
bailiff and twelve(12) jurors. Although the primary function
of this Court is to allow a juvenile the opportunity to be
judged and sentenced by a jury of peers, by successfully
completing the course and performing the required
"sentence", the juvenile will not have this transgression on
their record, nor will fines be imposed.
The only adults permitted inside the courtroom are the
parents of the defendant; as well as the Judge. The Judge’s
only function is ruling on objections, and to keep the trial
on pace. The Judge position is filled by members of the
Benton County Bar Association on a voluntary basis.
