Emergency Medical Dispatching
One of the most important
attributes of the Rogers 9-1-1 Center is our adherence to
the National Academy of Emergency Dispatch (NAED) protocol
for Emergency Medical Dispatching. All dispatchers
receive training as Advanced Emergency Medical Dispatchers
through the NAED. Dispatchers trained in Emergency
Medical Dispatch are a critical component of an effective
EMS system. Dispatchers at the Rogers 9-1-1 Center use
Medical Priority Dispatch System card sets and ProQA
software to input information from a caller and effectively
classify the emergency. Classification of the
emergency allows the Rogers Fire Department to send the
correct resources.
All emergency medical 9-1-1
calls receive the same basic questioning to begin the
classification process:
- Rogers 9-1-1, What is the address of the emergency?
- What is the phone number you are calling from?
- Okay, tell me exactly what happened.
- How old is s/he?
- Is s/he conscious (awake)?
- Is s/he breathing?
After asking these
questions, the EMD can generally classify the call into one
of the following complaint categories:
- Abdominal Pains/Problems
- Allergies (Reactions) / Envenomations (Stings,
Bites)
- Animal Bites / Attacks
- Assault / Sexual Assault
