Free Smoke Alarms!
The Rogers Fire Department
currently offers free smoke alarms to anyone that needs
them. These smoke alarms can be obtained by stopping by our
Training Center located at 3003 West Oak Street. Smoke
alarms are installed in residences free of charge.

Having a smoke alarm is important,
however it is also imperative that you test the alarm twice
a year. Between 2000 and 2004, 65% of fire fatalities
occurred in houses without smoke alarms. Never disable a
smoke detector simply because it has a low battery or
because it is fault. Always replace smoke alarms promptly or
call the fire department for assistance.

Remember to change your detector
battery when you change your clock twice a year. A smoke
alarm will typically last 5-7 years. Home owners should
install smoke alarms on every level of the home, including
the basement, and in every bedroom. The alarm can be placed
on the ceiling or on the wall; however, it is recommended
that it be placed on the ceiling. The alarm should be no
less then 6 inches from corners

and request us to stand-by for special events. Please be
aware that fire stations are open to the public for tour
anytime during normal business hours, but it is best to
schedule an appointment when you have a large group. You
should receive conformation of appointment within three
business days after request is made

Fire Prevention Week
National Fire Prevention Week is observed in the
United
States
and
Canada,
during the week (from Sunday to Saturday) in which October
9th falls. In the United States, the first Presidential
proclamation of Fire Prevention Week was made in 1925 by
President
Calvin
Coolidge,
as a way to keep the public informed about the importance of
fire prevention.
The
National
Fire Protection Association
(NFPA) continues to be the international sponsor of the
week. The Fire Prevention Week commemorates the
Great
Chicago Fire
of 1911. During Fire Prevention Week, the Prevention
Division in the Rogers Department conducts fire safety
education in all the elementary schools inside the city
limits of Rogers. The topics cover smoke detectors, fire
escape plans, and fire prevention.
Citizens Fire Academy
The Rogers Fire Department's Citizens Fire Academy allows
citizens in the Rogers area to learn how the Department
operates; focusing on administrative, emergency, and
training polices and procedures. The Academy runs for 6
weeks and consists of three hour sessions. Each session
covers a different area of operations in the Department with
topics such as: History of the Department, CPR Training, use
of the Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA), Hose,
Water Supply, Vehicle Extrication, Ladders, Search & Rescue,
Building Construction and other related topics. The academy
is hands-on and participants will get to perform many
different tasks including: vehicle extrication, fire hose
operations and many more hands-on activities.
The Academy is open to anyone over
the age of 18 who lives or works inside the City of Rogers.
The Academy will be taught at the
Rogers Fire Training Center located at 3003 West Oak Street
on Thursday nights starting at 6:00 pm.

Frisco
Festival
The Rogers Fire Department
operates the “Kids Firefighter Experience” for all ages at
the Rogers Frisco Festival. The Kids spray water and work a
bucket brigade to participate in real-life firefighter
action. The Frisco Festival has been
delighting people from all over for more that two decades.
Located in the Rogers Historic District each
September,
this Family-friendly festival is named in honor
Rogers'
family-friendly festival is named in honor of rich railroad
heritage. Area businesses sponsor what businesses
sponsor what is the area’s biggest party including rides,
music, delicious food, car shows, and so much more
A few signature events include the Chilisalapeno
Competition, Kid's Connection, Frisco Chicken BBQ,
Frisco Idol, several car shows, main stage entertainment...
all topped off with street dances on both Friday and
Saturday night.

Explorer Program
Post # 1219
The Rogers Fire Explorer's Post is
a group of young men and women between the ages of 16-21 who
have an interest in pursing a firefighting career. Explorers
give these young adults the opportunity to encounter similar
working conditions of actual firefighters.
Explorers meet at 6pm on the 2nd
and 4th Wednesday of every month. There they conduct
business meetings, train with members of the Rogers Fire
Department, and plan fund raising events. They are
instructed in areas such as fire suppression, fire
prevention, equipment, and apparatus; this includes hands-on
training with all the equipment necessary for a firefighter
to perform their job. Explorers participate in a ride-along
program, where they ride with firefighters and paramedics to
observe real emergency incidents.
